FIELD TRIPS

From time to time, I love the idea of taking art outdoors to the fields, mountains, or coastal paths. One day soon, I’ll be offering artist field trips – relaxed, inspiring days spent painting together on location, sharing ideas, styles, and energy in the open air.

It’s a true privilege to take your easel, brushes, and colours into the landscape, to breathe it all in and let nature guide your work.

For now, this is a dream in progress, but if this kind of creative adventure speaks to you, I’d love to hear from you.

FAQs

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

🎨 Commissions

Do you paint absolutely anything?

Not quite. I love a challenge and I’ll always consider an idea, but not every subject suits my style or time availability. That said, exceptions do happen, so it’s always worth asking. Once you enquire, I’ll chat with you about your vision and decide whether it’s something I can paint well. If I feel it’s not the right fit, I’ll gladly point you toward another artist who can bring your idea to life.

How long will my painting take to complete?

Timelines depend on the size and complexity of the work, and whether there’s a deadline. Paintings usually take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months. If you need a specific date, let me know early so we can plan accordingly.

Do you visit every landscape you paint?

Not always. While I love painting outdoors (en plein air), some places are too far to reach with all my gear. I often work from a mix of sketches and photographs and I’m very comfortable painting from reference photos.

How much are commissions?

Pricing is based on size and the time involved. My work generally ranges between R3,500 and R55,000 depending on scale. If you have a budget in mind, we can find a size and approach that works for you.

Do you need a deposit?

Yes. Once we agree on a commission, I ask for a 50% deposit to secure the project. The balance is payable upon completion, before delivery or collection. Payment plans are also available on request.

How involved am I in the process?

Very! After our initial discussion, I’ll send you sketches or a draft composition. Once you’re happy, I start painting. I usually work quietly through the layers, but I’m happy to share progress shots along the way. When the piece is complete, I’ll send high-quality images before delivery.

Do I have to buy the commission if I don’t like it?

I’ve been fortunate that this has never happened. Because I involve you throughout the process, it’s very rare for the final piece not to align with your vision. If something doesn’t feel right, I’ll work with you on adjustments. If in the end you’re still not happy, you’re not obliged to purchase but please note that I retain the rights to the artwork and may sell it as part of my collection.

Can you recreate a painting that’s already sold?

I won’t make exact replicas, but I can create something in a similar style, mood, or subject. If you love a sold work, I can also offer you “first right of refusal” on new pieces inspired by it – you’ll get the first chance to purchase before it goes public.

Do you still offer pencil or ink commissions?

Yes! I began my art journey with detailed drawing and still enjoy it.
Pencil and ink pieces are quicker to complete than oil paintings and are great if you’re working with a tighter timeline.
